Angas Zinc Mine |

Terramin Australia's Angas Zinc Mine at Strathalbyn needed an upgraded Community Newsletter as part of its community engagement program. There had been questions about environmental issues. I got involved and reviewed the science, questioned the client and istened to the government mining regulator to respond with the FACTS. This began in September 2011 with a series of special flyers and a quarterly published four page newsletter - including a special 6 page edition that told the full story of what the company was actually achieving within the community. Extending the 'reach' of the previous newsletter was an important component of the company's plan and the aims of the Strathalbyn Community Consultative Committee (SCCC). Newsletters were distributed direct to the local community and also inserted regionally in the Southern Argus and the Mount Barker Courier newspapers. Result = Acceptance. Even though the mine is now in 'care & maintenance' ~ a temporary closure since 2015, we still work with the local SCCC to maintain information flow with the community and to government. The company is now making major investments in a mining opportunity in Algeria in a massive potential zinc mine that has government support. There's now a proposal (June 2021) to re-open the Ore Processing Facility to create around 40 local jobs. This continues to have support of the SCCC.
This is the Special 6 page May 2012 Edition. |
